With each passing day consumers are taking more responsibility for their food to be healthier. People are cooking more from home – that being a low carb meal or a plant based burger.

Global sales of healthy food products, in fact, are estimated to reach $1 trillion by 2017, according to Euromonitor.

A Global Health & Wellness Survey polled over 30,000 individuals and it suggests consumer mindset about healthy food has shifted. People are ready to pay more for products that claim to boost health and weight loss. Besides that, 88% of those polled are willing to pay more for healthier foods.

This idea of improving nutrition to manage health may help explain growing consumer in fresh and organic products. Plus, lowering meat intake (high intake of red meat has been previously linked with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease).

According to a new study from market research firm The NPD Group, almost 90 percent of the people eating non-meat burgers are not vegetarian or vegan. Sales of plant-based versions of wings, burgers, and meatballs have risen by double digits over the past year — and sales of plant-based Italian sausage have skyrocketed by 416 percent.
